Everyone has heard of the Stadium of Light, but how about the newly named Bright Finance Stadium - nicknamed the Stadium of Bright!

This is the home of the world’s oldest football club, Sheffield FC, following a unique sponsorship deal with Chapletown-based company Bright Finance.

Former Sheffield Wednesday and Crystal Palace striker Mark Bright joined Bright Finance owner Paul Hancock and Sheffield FC chairman Richard Tims to officially announce the renaming of the stadium. Sheffield FC play their home games at the Bright Finance Stadium off Sheffield Road, Dronfield, and are raising their profile ahead of the club’s 150th anniversary in 2007. TV presenter and football pundit Bright said: “It’s nice to be involved in the launch, not many people can say their name is linked to a football stadium! I was aware that Sheffield FC were the oldest football club in the world, following my time with Wednesday, but I wasn’t sure where they played. I think it’s fantastic that the club is still going and preserving a piece of history in the game. It’s great to think that football started right here. I now plan to get more involved with the club and stay proactive. I am going to become a member and see if I can get a few people from the Match of the Day team to join too.”

Bright Finance Chairman Paul Hancock, himself a fervent Owls supporter was thrilled when Mark agreed to join them for the announcement. He added: “It’s great Mark has taken the time out to be at the launch and give his support. We are honoured and privileged to form this partnership with the oldest football club in the world. It’s a fantastic club and one which should be given its rightful place in football history.” Sheffield FC Chairman Richard Tims added: “I am delighted to announce this partnership with Bright Finance, who have shown tremendous support to the football club.
