Brighter future for Sheffield kids thanks to city finance company

£10,000

Staff at a Sheffield finance company are helping to give kids in South Yorkshire a brighter future by fulfilling their pledge to raise more than £10,000 for a major local children's charity campaign.

Chapletown-based Bright Finance has raised £10,292 for Help a Hallam Child's 'Read to Succeed' campaign.

This money will be put towards the £1million appeal target, which will fund 50 part-time classroom assistants. They will work in schools offering additional and essential one-on-one reading time with individual children who need support.

"The company and the staff are proud to have raised so much money, so quickly..."

The appeal was established last year to encourage businesses to muster their employees to raise funds for the charity and the money is already starting to be used to improve children's reading skills across Sheffield, South Yorkshire and the North Midlands.

Managers and staff at Bright Finance reached their fundraising target through a series of events including a firewalk, sponsored slim, Christmas card donation and by competing in the Bright Finance Sheffield Half Marathon.

Paul Hancock, Chairman of Bright Finance, said: "The company and the staff are proud to have raised so much money, so quickly for this campaign. Being able to read is essential and these teaching assistants will carry out a vital job - helping to boost young people's literacy across the region.

Linda Larder, Director of Help A Hallam Child, said: "We have been delighted with Bright Finance's support since the start of the appeal. We are now well on our way towards our campaign target of £1 million."
